The story begins in a hill backdrop in a forest during the winter. Three singing chipmunks named Alvin (Justin Long), Simon (Matthew Gray Gubler) and Theodore (Jesse McCartney) are singing Daniel Powter's "Bad Day". Alvin complains about the food storage when he accidentally empties their stock. Alvin then complains about his own tough life to struggle for his survival and even called their tree a "stupid, stupid tree". Then the tree is chopped down (with the unfortunate trio on it).
