SWS features four massive mountains that are completely open from the start. There are no tricks to unlock, just four special moves to complete some specific missions. Otherwise, you are pretty much able to pull off any trick you want from the get-go if you have the talent.

The idea of a personal, rocket-powered flight device has captured man s imagination for decades, yet the reality of such a device remains depressingly distant. This disparity between dream and reality mirrors the experience of playing Dark Void. There are moments when jetpack flight is joyous, freewheeling fun, such as when you re pulling off daring acrobatic maneuvers, dogfighting with UFOs, and boldly zooming around enclosed areas. It gives you a thrilling taste of the speedy promise of a jetpack-powered world, yet this fantasy is too often brought down to earth by the rest of Dark Void s gameplay. The third-person shooter sections are competent but mundane, and there are long sections when fully powered flight isn t possible. Furthermore, the campaign is only about eight hours long, and there are no multiplayer modes to bolster replayability. While there is certainly high-flying fun to be had, the lackluster action hinders Dark Void s lofty ambitions.

The unsettling atmosphere drives you ever deeper into this ravaged land, but a few gameplay problems hinder the suspension of disbelief. Sluggish gunplay and nonexistent enemy intelligence make your actions feel artificial at times, lessening the impact of these atrocities. However, Velvet Assassin is largely able to rise above these issues and present a powerful, unnerving look at one of history s darkest periods.

Released earlier this year on the Xbox, Majesco and developer GlyphX Games Advent Rising was one of the most tragically ambitious games to come along in a long time. In development for a few years, Advent Rising tried to do an awful lot of things at once, attempting to combine a cinematic gameplay experience with an all-new sci-fi universe and some unique control and combat mechanics. Unfortunately, it failed, thanks to a fairly uninspired storyline, extremely irritating gameplay flaws, and a whole smorgasbord of technical problems that completely wrecked the experience. Now on the PC, Advent Rising has improved. The hideous frame rate problems that plagued the Xbox version are all but gone, as are some of the sound bugs and control issues. With that said, the new control scheme devised for the PC feels a lot more generic in comparison with what the Xbox version tried to accomplish, and the story and general difficulty of the game have remained relatively untouched. It s a better game overall, but it remains a problematic one in its own right.
